In a world where technology and environmental sustainability are becoming increasingly intertwined, Visual Composer is joining the WordPress Gives A Hand movement for the 4th year in a row. In 2023, we will donate to One Tree Planted - an organization whose main focus is the global restoration of forests.

Planting A Greener Future With WordPress Gives A Hand featured image

If this is your first time hearing about the movement - WordPress Gives A Hand is a global initiative that brings together businesses, organizations, and individuals associated with the WordPress ecosystem. Each partner chooses a cause close to them and donates part of their revenue during the charity event. This year it’s from December 25th to December 31st.

Why Trees Matter

This year we chose to support One Tree Planted, a non-profit organization dedicated to global reforestation.

Trees play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of our ecosystem and over the years deforestation has made an impact on climate change. It has been destroying the homes of more than half the world's land-based plants and animals, and three-quarters of all birds. So one way to reduce the damage is by planting more trees and One Tree Planted is doing just that.

Trees Planted Over The Years

One Tree Planted statistics

One Tree Planted has planted over 92.7 million trees in more than 80 countries since 2014 and we’re proud to be part of the future of reforestation.

How You Can Contribute

You can join Visual Composer and other WordPress community members and be a part of this collective effort.

By purchasing Visual Composer for your website building needs during the last full week of the year, you are indirectly contributing to the WordPress Gives A Hand movement and supporting the valuable work of One Tree Planted.

Here are other WordPress companies joining WordPress Gives a hand this year. By purchasing from any of them, you’ll be part of our collective movement.

Let’s create positive change together, one tree at a time

Visual Composer's participation in the WordPress Gives A Hand movement marks a significant step towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future. As businesses increasingly recognize the importance of corporate social responsibility, the WordPress community sets a great example by intertwining technological innovation with a commitment to preserving our planet for future generations.

Keep an eye out for upcoming updates, and let's create a lasting impact together!

Ultimate Addons for Visual Composer: From Idea to Reality

Let's dive deeper into the journey of bringing the addon to life as we share insights from Lucas Selsek, the CEO of WPbuilders – the team behind well-known WordPress themes like TheFox and Cesis, operating under the name Tranmautritam.

Planning and Design

It all began with a deep dive into established builders like Visual Composer, driven by the goal of adding fresh elements and elevating existing ones to new heights. Leading this creative journey was their lead designer, Tranmautritam, whose visionary ideas were instrumental in crafting cutting-edge templates and captivating demos.

Collaboration was key during the design phase, ensuring a seamless user experience and alignment with existing systems.

Development and Execution

Development followed an iterative approach with rigorous testing and refinement to achieve peak performance.

A standout aspect of their journey was the remarkably smooth development phase, made possible by the comprehensive documentation and support from the Visual Composer team.

The development phase was remarkably smooth, thanks to the comprehensive documentation provided by the Visual Composer team. Their support was exceptional, always ready to go the extra mile when we had questions or needed assistance in fine-tuning our elements.

To further enhance the addon, the team encourages customers to suggest features they'd like to see.

If you ever find that a particular element is missing from Visual Composer, our addon is designed to be adaptable. Just let us know your requirements, and we'll work to make it a reality.

Additionally, Lucas also highlighted how easy it is to develop your own custom elements for those with more advanced technical knowledge.

For those with a grasp of Javascript and React, crafting your own elements should be well within reach. The robust ecosystem and support from Visual Composer provided a solid foundation for seamless integration.

Strategy and Key Takeaways

Their journey was guided by market research, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement. Combined with valuable community feedback, it shaped their strategy, ensuring a well-rounded integration of essential features.

When it came to pricing, they carefully considered Visual Composer's lifetime license as a reference point, resulting in a competitive pricing model.

The entire process took about 18 months to complete and was skillfully managed alongside other projects. Looking forward, they recognized the need for a more robust marketing strategy to share their creation more widely.

Creating this addon was a rewarding contribution to the community, offering invaluable insights into software development. I encourage others to embark on similar ventures, with thorough research, openness to feedback, and adaptability. Witnessing the addon in action is undeniably worth the effort.

Final Words

The Ultimate Addons for Visual Composer is your all-in-one WordPress toolkit that will transform the way you build and design websites. With its extensive collection of elements, templates, and blocks, this addon provides you with limitless possibilities to create stunning, professional websites without any coding knowledge.

WP Builders FightClub: Visual Composer Case Study https://visualcomposer.com/blog/wp-builders-fightclub-visual-composer-case-study/ https://visualcomposer.com/blog/wp-builders-fightclub-visual-composer-case-study/#comments Wed, 31 May 2023 12:28:07 +0000 https://visualcomposer.com/?p=36940 At WP Builders Fight Club, all major builders compete in a fair game to show their performance and abilities- we joined with Visual Composer.

The first rule of Fight Club states that you don't talk about Fight Club. The good news is that WordPress Builder Fight Club is a different breed. It is easy to join, you can talk about it, and there is no Brad Pitt to hold (kick) you back.

At WP Builders Fight Club, all major page builders and website builders compete in a fair game to show their performance and abilities.

What is WP Builders Fight Club?

WP Builders Fight Club is a community-driven project for page builders and website builders to compete in terms of performance, design, and other capabilities.

The idea is simple, you need to create a WordPress page. But not any kind of page - the page needs to follow the Fight Club guidelines and requirements. The requirements include technical specifications and design accuracy.

WP Builder Fight Club page design with Visual Composer

All pages created with different builders are then stored in a similar environment. This helps to measure the performance and receive unbiased results. The results include reports from GTMetrix and Google PageSpeed Insights.

The goal of the project is simple - have an honest and transparent comparison of all major WordPress builders in one place.

As of today, there are all major page builders and website builders presented, including Elementor, Builderius, Beaver Builder, and Visual Composer.

WP Builders Fight Club and Visual Composer

We decided to join WP Builder Fight Club with Visual Composer. Visual Composer Website Builder is a complete solution that allows you to build WordPress sites without using the styling of any WordPress themes.

Our goal was to complete the challenge to showcase the capabilities of our visual site builder while not compromising on performance.

Our solution consisted of Visual Composer, Advanced Custom Fields, and SVG Support. We also had Twenty Twenty-Three theme installed (per WordPress guidelines) but did not use it. What makes Visual Composer stand out is that we will not load any theme files if you are using Theme Builder to avoid theme footprints on performance.
The page layout was built using Visual Composer Theme Builder where you can design headers and footers. In the layout, we used Advanced Custom Fields for dynamic content and custom CSS for additional styling.

Since Visual Composer is a low-code solution, web developers and agencies can easily tweak the look and feel of their sites using custom CSS and JavaScript. In the Fight Club challenge, we used custom CSS to introduce pixel-perfect image overlap.

For the content part, we used Visual Composer free and premium elements from the Visual Composer Hub (cloud element library). The library consists of hundreds of content elements and integrations which reduces the need for additional plugins and add-ons.

Results

With Visual Composer, we managed to score 98 performance points in GTMetrix and Google PageSpeed Insights. The score on mobile was a bit lower (88 points) which means there is room for improvement.

We also reached 100 points in the structure and high scores for accessibility and SEO. To be fair, we did not work on the SEO score as a part of the Fight Club challenge. Jumping into Visual Composer Insights and data attributes can easily help you to get 100 points in SEO.

If we compare Visual Composer with other major builders on the market, we see that we have scored higher than some well-known players and are among the top solutions among builders when it comes to performance.

If you’re curious, you can learn more details about how exactly the page was replicated, what challenges we faced, and how we overcame them.

WordPress Community Gives Back To Ukraine https://visualcomposer.com/blog/wordpress-gives-back-to-ukraine/ https://visualcomposer.com/blog/wordpress-gives-back-to-ukraine/#respond Thu, 15 Dec 2022 16:38:00 +0000 https://visualcomposer.com/?p=36648 Join us in supporting Ukraine! For over eight years, they've been fighting for their country, and now is our chance to show them that we stand with them. Let's come together as a community and make a difference!

The post WordPress Community Gives Back To Ukraine appeared first on Visual Composer Website Builder.

WordPress Gives A Hand is a charity event that has been taking place for the past three years. This year we are focusing our efforts on helping the WordPress community in Ukraine. In numbers, it makes up around 0.22% of it, if we estimate by sites built with WordPress in Ukraine. The majority of these are facing massive attacks. But it's much more than that.

Ukrainians have been fighting for their country for 8 years, 9 months, 3 weeks, and 3 days to this moment. It escalated on the 24th of February earlier this year. Being a small, family-culture company, it affects us deeply, to see our colleagues and friends facing these difficult situations every day. So we want to do anything and everything to help.

Being part of a community also means we support and encourage each other's ideas, beliefs, diversities and come together in difficult times. A community is like a tree with its roots, where damage to one part of the root system, affects the whole tree.

If you would like to support the WordPress community in Ukraine, there are several ways that you can get involved, and we will discuss them in this article.

About The WordPress Community in Ukraine

Ukraine is part of the European WordPress community, which began in 2013. From the very beginning, they were determined to make WordCamp Kyiv happen no matter what. With the first event taking place back in 2016.

Besides that, Ukrainian people are passionate about WordPress and the web in general, and actively host and organize WordPress meetups, conferences, and workshops all over the country regularly, despite all the odds working against them.

WordPress Events in Ukraine

 • WordPress Kyiv with an impressive 46 events organized to this day, and close to 2,000 official participants
 • WordPress Kitchen volunteer-organized conferences three years in a row, thanks to which WordCamp Kyiv was able to happen
 • WordCamp Kyiv 2016 was the first official WordCamp in Ukraine with estimated 250 attendees
 • WordCamp Kyiv 2019 where speakers themselves have said, they never saw any conference with that amount of questions from the audience

Hire Top Talents from Ukraine

There are many reasons to hire Ukrainian people. Ukraine has a large and highly educated workforce, with many people skilled in fields such as software development, engineering, and design.

In 2020, over 90% of young adults in Ukraine had completed at least an upper secondary education, compared to the EU average of 84%. Largely due to the fact that state-run universities in Ukraine provide high-quality education at a low cost.

Ukrainian workers are known for their strong work ethic and dedication to quality, which can help to ensure that projects are completed on time and to a high standard (talking from personal experience).

Additionally, hiring Ukrainian workers can make a big difference to the 10 million people who have been displaced from their homes and jobs.

 • YouTeam is a company with Ukrainian roots that connects customers to a network of over 25,000 engineers across 500 dev agencies in Eastern Europe and Latin America. They have waived the service fee for customers hiring talent from Ukraine, and they donate 50% of their net profit to support Ukraine
 • Upwork is a popular freelancer platform that can connect you with some of the top talents in Ukraine. It's no surprise that Ukrainian workers have a high rating on Upwork, with 4.9 out of 5 stars from clients
 • Freelance Hunt is a Ukrainian-made platform, that has helped complete more than a million projects worldwide successfully, by connecting employers with top Ukrainian (and other) freelancers
 • Employ Ukraine has helped connect thousands of employers and job searchers with remote and on-site teams across the globe, without any service costs

Ukrainian Insights on Helping Ukraine Through WordPress

To truly understand the significance of the support and ways to help Ukraine within the context of the WordPress community, we must hear from the heart and soul of Ukraine - its people.

"The WordPress community was the first to help me through the attacks on Ukraine and provided support. For those looking to support Ukraine, there are many reputable funds to donate to, but be aware of potential fraudsters Thank you to the WordPress community for spreading the word and supporting us "

- Lana Miro
Partnerships & Content Manager at Crocoblock

“I'm grateful to the company for accepting our current electrical problems and the fact that sometimes I can't work because of it. I have already taken some steps to improve my situation, and I'm also grateful for the competitive salary, which is above the average in Ukraine and gives me more options in different situations”

- Dmytro Kovalov
Backend Developer at Visual Composer

"My company has provided extra support due to the situation in Ukraine, especially in the beginning when things were much worse. Almost everyone at the company tried to support us at least verbally. And when I had difficulties with internet and electricity shortages, management always understood the situation and provided some free days off to help me out."

- Oleg Apanovich
Backend Developer at Visual Composer

We hope this helped get a greater sense of the positive impact that the support from the global WordPress community has had on Ukrainian lives. To overcome this, we need to stand is solidarity with them, as they would do the same for us.

How To Support Ukraine Directly

It's important to understand that the war affects everyone, not just the WordPress community.

The consequences of the war can be felt across the globe, in terms of political, economic, and social impacts. This is why it is crucial for all of us to be aware of what is happening, and to support efforts to bring peace and stability to the region.

If you are a concerned global citizen, a Ukrainian diaspora member, or just someone who wants to make a positive difference, here are some ways you can support Ukraine directly:

 • Save The Children helps save the lives of children living in war zones, facing a triple threat from conflict, climate change, and food shortages
 • The International Rescue Committee (IRC) provides support to people by restoring health, safety, education, economic well-being, and power to those who have been devastated by conflict and disaster
 • Razom brings volunteers from around the world together, who are united by a common goal: to support Ukraine. The word Razom itself means “together” in Ukrainian
 • Yuliana Symchych and Ben Hoffman raise funds “to warm the hands that hold freedom” by purchasing reusable compact hand warmers for Ukrainian citizens
 • Anton Shulke from Duda collects donations for stray animal shelters in Ukraine. You can follow his journey during the war in Ukraine here

About WordPress Gives A Hand

WordPress Gives A Hand is a community-driven initiative that aims to help those in need and make a positive impact. The event started as a charity function in 2020 and has grown into a movement that supports various charitable projects and organizations worldwide.

The initiative was started by our team at Visual Composer, who wanted to give back in difficult times. By partnering with other companies and products in the WordPress community, we were able to make a bigger difference and grow the event beyond our expectations.

This year, to support Ukraine, we've decided to focus on helping Ukrainian children who are affected by the conflict.

We encourage you to join us in our mission and donate to help those who are most vulnerable – young children, elderly people, families with disabled children, or unemployed single parents.

From the 19th to the 25th of December, we encourage you to find products that align with your values and interests, which can be personally fulfilling, as well as helps to support the work of the charities, which can have a wider positive impact on society.

Meet The Ambassadors Giving Back in 2022

While the war is a crisis with major consequences, it's important not to forget about other causes, that still need help during these difficult times.

That's why WordPress Gives A Hand 2022 participants - WordPressers, product owners, and all-around lovely people are donating a percentage of their revenue during the last full week of the year to causes near and dear to their hearts:

 • Visual Composer is donating 10% to Children's Voices which provides psychological and psychosocial support to children affected by the war
 • Amelia, wpDataTables, and Trafft are donating 10% from each purchase to BUDI HUMAN, a Serbian organization, where each person and situation is given equal attention, meaning each donator can decide for themselves to whom they wish to donate
 • FlowMattic is donating 10% per sale to the SNEH Foundation, which is bridging the socioeconomic gap which exists in our society by helping underprivileged families
 • LayerWP is donating 50% to another, amazing WordPress community-led charity - Big Orange Heart that supports remote workers
 • Cozmoslabs and TranslatePress are donating 20%, as well as MAMP GmbH is donating 10 € per purchase to SOS Children Villages - the world's largest NGO focused on supporting children without parental care and families at risk
 • CatFolders is donating 20% to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), which saves endangered wildlife, protects ecosystems, addresses the climate crisis, and find ways for people and nature to thrive

Final Thoughts

In this blog post, we discuss ways to support Ukraine, including donating to organizations, spreading awareness, advocating for policies, and purchasing goods and services. By taking any of these steps, you can help to make a positive difference in the lives of those living there.

We also discuss WordPress Gives A Hand, a charity event that supports not only the WordPress community in Ukraine but also other equally important causes. You can find out more by following us on social media (@wpgivesahand) and on our official website.

Additionally, many studies have shown that giving and helping others is the number one source of happiness. By giving as often as possible, we can produce the "Happiness Trifecta" of dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin. Therefore, we owe it to ourselves to give as often as possible in order to be happier.

“Good deeds aren’t supposed to be self-less, they’re supposed to make you feel good so you can do more of them and make an impact in the world.”

Announcing Yourday and a Four-day workweek https://visualcomposer.com/blog/announcing-yourday-and-a-four-day-workweek/ https://visualcomposer.com/blog/announcing-yourday-and-a-four-day-workweek/#comments Thu, 02 Jun 2022 11:35:27 +0000 https://visualcomposer.com/?p=34919 After running the 4 day workweek experiment for six months, we are ready to make some conclusions and adopt this new way of working.

The post Announcing Yourday and a Four-day workweek appeared first on Visual Composer Website Builder.

]]>

Last year in November we started an experiment - Yourday. The idea was simple: we would work four days a week, take one extra day off to pursue our own interests, and come back on Monday energized and fully rested.

4 day workweek

Why 4 day work week?

We do what we preach, and we preach well-being and high performance for ourselves and our colleagues.

We relied on two core ideas:

 1. We live in a fast-paced ever-changing world of too much. Five days a week is a long time to be at work, and two days is not enough time to relax and recharge.
 2. In general human beings are very adaptive and respond well to stretching goals, so we can definitely achieve the same or even more in less time with sharper and more focused minds and energy.

Yourday experiment

We announced within the company, that we want to run the Yourday experiment for the next 6 months.

The hypothesis is stated a - Shorter workweek will have a positive effect on our happiness and productivity.

 • Same pay. Everyone works one day less per week, but their pay is the same
 • Fewer hours. Extra hours were not added on the other four days to make up for the "missing" day
 • The same flexibility in working schedule
 • No changes to the “work from anywhere” policy
 • Make Friday #Yourday - do what you want on this day!

Conditions

 • Support and product quality must stay at the same level or better
 • We will evaluate productivity subjectively by discussion and reflections in each sprint
 • Support needs to self-organize (agree on shifts). And as before development team needs to keep an eye on the support slack channel in case of something urgent comes up
 • Thursdays are not the new Fridays

We were open, that if it even feels something is getting out of control, we will stop the experiment.

The initial response from the team was appreciative but with some concerns. Most got right away excited and a couple of team members weren't sure if it was going to work.

The next step was to actually start the experiment and see if it works.

Is working 4 days a week good?

After running the experiment for six months, we are ready to make some conclusions.

 • Weekly productivity stayed the same. We have not out delivered or wowed ourselves, but we delivered to our clients what we planned and delighted them with a few extras
 • Quality was not jeopardized. The number of critical errors went down. We kept our famous support at the highest level with a satisfaction rate above 90%
 • We noticed everyone started to care more and be more proactive. We know this will help us to achieve better results in the long run
 • All feel happier, and we all have more time for our hobbies and families
 • Perhaps the best part is that we don't even miss those extra working hours.

Yes, we continue to pursue less is more and keep a four-day workweek.

We will keep on challenging ourselves to find ways of doing more with less time. And we encourage you to do the same!

Some reflections

Accept, that you will do less, but with better decision making and quality. Have a mix of quantitative and qualitative, subjective and objective metrics to follow.

If your product and process are in a bad shape, first commit as a team to sort this out. When you are part of a mess or tons of manual processes it is your responsibility to invest time and improve the situation.

It takes time to adjust. You will continue to plan more and stress about it. You need time to do an inventory of where you used to invest your time, and how can you work smarter to achieve more with less time. This challenge is for every individual and every team; do not expect someone will tell you how to do it. We are adults and if we want to make a work revolution we need to be able to sort this out.

One of the key arguments we hear from other companies is that flexible time is more important. We disagree, four-day workweek and flexible time are not substitutes for one another. Flexible time helps you to integrate work and private life better. The four-day workweek is the next level for our quality of life. Knowing you have three days to yourself with little to no chance to be involved in work makes wonder about your well-being.

Remember, only in 1929, the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America Union was the first union to demand and receive a five-day workweek. The rest of the United States slowly followed, but it was not until 1940, when a provision of the 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act mandating a maximum 40-hour workweek went into effect, that the two-day weekend was adopted nationwide. Before that, the norm was around 48 hours per week (Saturdays included).

Context: We are a multinational, distributed team of 18 people total with 8 engineers, 3 support agents, and 4 marketers making international products.

Why Businesses Are Choosing A New Type Of Agency https://visualcomposer.com/blog/why-businesses-are-choosing-a-new-type-of-agency/ https://visualcomposer.com/blog/why-businesses-are-choosing-a-new-type-of-agency/#comments Fri, 15 Apr 2022 08:29:05 +0000 https://visualcomposer.com/?p=34675 In the world of web development, there’s been a major shift from coding to no-code solutions. This is not only because it's easier on developers but also more cost effective in many ways, especially when you consider how quickly websites can be built with these tools!

The post Why Businesses Are Choosing A New Type Of Agency appeared first on Visual Composer Website Builder.

]]>

As our industry has evolved, the speed of website creation has increased massively. Not only due to page builders taking away the need to create full websites with hand-coded HTML and CSS, but also the 100 other tools and plugins created specifically for this purpose.

Need a form? No problem, there’s a plugin for it. Need to boost SEO on a website? There are 10 plugins to choose from…

This benefits both the agency providing their services and the clients who are paying for it.
In this post, we’re going to take a look at why no-code solutions have become the new standard that businesses are looking for, how agencies and web creators can adapt to this, and how even marketing-oriented agencies can bolt on website creation to their services with a brand new workflow.

Why Businesses Love No-Code Solutions (Without Knowing It)

No-code solutions are great for small businesses that would like to implement their own website or app, but neither have the budget to hire an expert or an in-house team to build it.

But as a business owner yourself, I’m sure you feel that you never have enough time to do anything other than what you are doing day-to-day, so even learning a no-code solution can be difficult for our clients. Not only that, they have to learn a lot more to get to a level that would produce a website or app that is of the standard that is expected from an expert.

When an expert is given a no-code solution, it speeds up their work massively and this is the effect the clients feel; which is why they love no-code solutions, almost without even realizing it. If you are a good designer or web creator, instead of spending your time coding it, no-code solutions allow you to realize it way faster.

From the business’ point of view, they’ve hired you for a shiny new website and you’ve done it in such a short amount of time, there is no way that when they need their next site, they are going to go for an agency that uses a coded solution.

Learn more about the added value of no-code/low-code website development

How You Can Adapt To A No-Code Solution

If you are an agency creating websites purely from custom code, unless this is due to your client’s need for a very specific kind of function, there is no better time to migrate your processes to a no-code solution.

There are many solutions to choose from, Visual Composer is just one of many examples (if you’re looking down the WordPress route), where you can create entire page layouts in literally seconds with drag-and-drop.

To get started, we highly recommend redesigning your own website using a no-code solution, and upgrading to that amazing design you’ve always wanted, but never had the time to execute.

How Marketing-Oriented Agencies Take Advantage Of No-Code Solutions

If you are an agency purely providing marketing solutions to your clients, then you already have a good grasp of what your client expects in terms of the visuals you are providing and what they want to achieve.

No-code solutions enable you to easily bolt on website creation into your service offering. What’s the point of creating paid ads for your clients if the website they are getting taken to is not fit for purpose?

And this is exactly the angle you should be taking when adding this service to your agency. You can provide the ads that are going to get them conversions, but you can get them even more by creating the entire conversion path with a new website.

Here are things you can start doing right now:

 1. Research different no-code solutions for website creation and find one that fits best for you, by giving them a test and building your own agency website with them.
 2. Offer no-code web development to one of your existing clients who you are doing marketing for, a client where you know what they need and you can execute on it fast.
 3. Sign up to the Atarim Digital Summit to hear our Product Manager, Raitis, discuss this in detail and show you exactly how you can create a website process that you can easily add to your business.

Conclusion

No-code solutions are definitely here to stay, as they become more feature-rich, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to justify a coded solution.

There are tons of platforms and tools out there to help you get the job done, finding the one that works best for you is paramount, as you want to be able to churn out brand new websites for your clients quickly. Not only increasing the amount of work you can take on, which in turn will help you earn more but also giving a better service to your clients, making them come back for more and giving you even more referrals.

If you want to learn more about how no-code solutions can help your business, we strongly recommend securing a spot at the upcoming Atarim Digital Agency Summit, where our Product Manager, Raitis, will be diving deep into this topic for his session.

You don’t want to miss it, secure your spot for free.

You may be following his daily musings through his #MorningCoffee newsletter or listened to his keynote at a WordCamp event. Or you know him simply as the Chief of Cloudways. Regardless, it's not that easy to find an evangelist of open source and Wordpress as vocal as Robert Jacobi.

Interview with Robert Jacobi, Chief of Cloudways, with Visual Composer

Robert Jacobi has over 20 years of experience in sales and management. From early-career days founding Arc Technology Group, the lead Joomla consultancy. To becoming the President of Open Source Matters, an organization that supports the Joomla project. To his current position as Director of WordPress for Cloudways — Robert is by far one of the biggest contributors of the open-source as we know it today.

Today Robert shares his expert opinion on the WordPress community, Cloudways partnership with Visual Composer, and other interesting topics.

The Interview

Nikola: Your experience in the open-source community is almost 100 years in dog years. Tell us, how did you make the decision to go from Joomla to WordPress?

Robert: Well, that makes me feel older than I should but I guess that’s a fair assessment. When I first looked at what kind of open source CMS to utilize back in 2005, I was very focused on highly technical and object-oriented projects. With a team, we had built our own J2EE MVC framework and a CMS that sat on top of it. Very geeky stuff. Joomla had/has core technology that really spoke to us and we were able to leverage it for years. Of course, technologies continue to mature, user expectations change, and business moves in different directions. Moving to WordPress five years ago was all about WordPress being able to satisfy personal and professional needs, and the technology was accelerating. Gutenberg is a great example.

Nikola: Being one of the largest communities in the world, what factor, you'd say, makes the WordPress community so strong, united, and welcoming, from web creators with 10+ years of experience to complete newcomers?

Robert: I think you’ve answered the question in the question. Because the community is already so large, there are different points of access for folks with various skill levels and interests. From virtual conferences to webinars, to so much social media, there really is a place for everyone, and because it is an open-source community there is a very giving nature to newcomers.

Nikola: What do you think is the reason why Cloudways has become so popular over the years? What's the key to your success?

Robert: I feel that over the last decade Cloudways has looked to solve the really annoying technical problems for smart people who want to be doing other things. Managing, deploying, and maintaining a cloud infrastructure is absolutely doable for any individual, but is it a good use of your time? Do you really want to spend days, weeks, months, figuring out the intricacies of a certain cloud provider?

The key to our success is that we are a technology company focused on getting rid of the technology speed bumps. Of course with support and value.

Nikola: There have been increasingly more acquisitions within the open-source space over the years, with around 10 in the last two years alone. What are your thoughts on this current trend?

Robert: Just 10? I’m pretty sure that number is off by a factor of 10. There has really been significant movement in acquisitions! There is a ton of great software being managed and run by very small (or solo) folks. These projects though can have significant traction so of course being able to leverage great technology with a built-in user base is absolutely exciting for businesses looking to buy.

Nikola: With the frequent vulnerability threats, web security has been a heavy topic in the past few months especially. How can we as a community make sure our websites and data are secured?

Robert: The basics have never changed. Back up your sites and data. Test your backups in a separate environment – we make this easy at Cloudways. Keep your applications and stack up to date. We need to hold each other accountable as site owners, as hosts, and as application developers. There are great third-party tools to add to the layers of protection as well.

Nikola: With WEB3 rolling in, the everchanging Core Web Vitals and accessibility becoming a bigger thing by the day. What is the future of hosting for 2022?

Robert: The items you mentioned are all in the application stack and generally further away from hosting as most people think about it. But, I feel as hosts [hosting companies] all up their baseline products and services we will see either through internal development or acquisitions steps into those spaces.

Nikola: You have been a huge mental health advocate for remote workers, as well as participated in, and supported many charitable projects over the years. What are your thoughts on the open-source community and the World Wide Web itself, becoming more socially responsible, sustainable, and overall just a healthier environment for all who are a part of it?

Robert: Big Orange Heart and similar projects are more relevant than ever. Although Covid accelerated remote work, it has been seeing a rise over the past few years. Regarding social responsibility and the rest, it’s surprisingly always been there. I mean look at what the internet aspired to at “creation.” Distributed computing, with redundancy and accessibility. It’s a hugely democratic and empowering ideal. Open source projects in general are direct “children” of this ideal. The code is open and communities, especially at the beginning, support themselves very directly and have missions and goals that are not always just code.

Do I want WordPress to be a “political community?” No. But I think a community-driven mission can have health reverberations for the environment, for health, for mature discourse, for marginalized communities. It’s nice to see those things grow in relevance.

Nikola: Cloudways is participating in the WPGivesAHand charity movement this year, what are your thoughts on such initiatives within the WordPress community?

Robert: Ha! I think I just covered it above. I mean each one of us, person, agency, host, is part of the WordPress community and trying to take part in such initiatives. It’s great! We often see companies with specific charities (we participate in the Million Tree Challenge) but something like WPGivesAHand can have multiplier effects.

Nikola: Finally the topic we all have been waiting for - Cloudways has partnered with many amazing companies over the years. Why should potential users choose the Cloudways + Visual Composer bundle, and what's the value to the users?

Robert: It’s more than the here and now, it’s the critical wave of the future. No-code / low-code is what people want, and Visual Composer with an insanely smart and intuitive way to create websites and applications, as well as the ongoing maintenance and support of them is a no-brainer.

With the Cloudways + Visual Composer bundle, we are taking the best of powerful and easy-to-use hosting and adding the powerful and easy-to-build capability in a 1-click solution. It’s perfect.

Rapid Fire Round

NikolaRobert
Cats or dogs?DOGS
Espresso or Cappuccino?ESPRESSO … pure espresso, nothing else, and a lot of it!
Space X or Starlink?SPACE X because I really want to see space travel become affordable
Stay home or travel?TRAVEL, of course, I work from home.
Christmas Dinner or the Annual Marinara Weekend?MARINARA WEEKEND but only because CHRISTMAS EVE dinner is the big one for me, not CHRISTMAS

Ending Thoughts

Nikola: Thank you so much for taking the time to educate us on such fun and interesting topics. What would you wish for all the readers, web creators, designers, and developers in 2022?

Robert: Stay healthy! Mentally, emotionally, physically. It’s been a challenging few years in ways none of us expected but being healthy in all those ways will make it possible to be curious 🙂

It's another year around and we are thrilled to look back at what has happened to Visual Composer in 2021.

This year, we released new features for web creators, built a stronger community, launched partnership programs, and more.

Visual Composer team and community members

Visual Composer Community

In 2021, we have spent a lot of time talking to our community (you guys) and building relationships. We believe that a strong community is the cornerstone of a successful product that delivers the value customers want.

This year, we have managed to grow our community by more than 100%.

We understand that being a community-focused company is about giving rather than taking and being transparent. This is why we have launched our new help center to improve the way you can request features and access our public roadmap.

Releases and features

This year, we have managed to deliver 9 major releases - all containing essential features for web creators.

Here are a few of the top features and improvements you received during 2021.

Layout Builder, Role Manager, Font Manager, Global Design Options, Insights

UI/UX design

Every release we make, every breath we take, we are listening to you. Thanks to your feedback and feature requests, we have introduced Visual Composer Dashboard, right-click controls, optimized the navigation bar, and more. All this allows you to work faster and more intuitively.

Layout Builder

Our most important feature of 2021 is the Layout Builder. Layout Builder allows you to create completely custom templates for your pages, posts, and archives. With the Visual Composer Layout Builder, you become less dependent on the theme settings and remove unnecessary restrictions.

Font Manager

Another mind-blowing feature of 2021 was the Font Manager. Font Manager gives you the ability to define your site typography (font family, colors, letter spacing, etc.) for headings, paragraphs, and more. You can easily overwrite your theme settings and control the smallest piece of your site typography.

More Visual Composer Insights

Visual Composer Insights has received well-deserved recognition among the community. To improve it, we have introduced more quantitative and qualitative analysis (WCGA 2.0 contrast check) to help you build better sites.

Role Manager

As you create a website for your clients, you may want to restrict parts of your layout or even some Visual Composer features. For that, we have introduced a powerful Role Manager that allows you to adjust the access rights for your site user roles. No more human errors or unwanted design manipulations.

Page Design Options

Always wanted to apply our powerful row design options to the whole page? We have introduced page design options to control the overall look and feel of your WordPress pages.

New pricing for growing business

In 2021, we have paid extra attention to our license types and the feedback we received.

Since we saw a gap in our licenses, we have introduced new license plans to ensure it supports your growth.

Even more, we have increased the number of active sites for one of our most popular license types (from 3 sites to 5 sites) while keeping the same price.

And the cherry on top. For the first time, Visual Composer offers a lifetime license to remove the need for license management when working with your clients.

More partners, better opportunities

We know that you don't rely on a single product when building a site. All experts have their own technical stack when it comes to web development. Our goal was to make sure that we support your workflow by introducing strategic partnerships with well-established and promising tools from the WordPress ecosystem.

Hosting is always an essential part of web development. Having reliable hosting makes you feel safe about the uptime, performance, and even SEO. In 2021, we partnered with Cloudways to deliver you a 1-click install bundle. Now you can easily start your next web design project by choosing an award-winning Cloudways WordPress hosting with Visual Composer Website Builder installed by default.
This bundle ensures that you receive the best performance on the market and can easily comply with Google Core Web Vitals.

Our second partnership was made with Bertha.ai. Bertha is the world's first fully-integrated AI writing assistant for WordPress. With Bertha, you can reduce the time you spend on copywriting and focus on your business. More than that, integration between Visual Composer and Bertha allows you to instantly generate content right in the frontend editor.

WPGivesAHand 2021 movement in WordPress community

WPGivesAHand

Launched for the first time in 2020, WPGivesAHand is a charity movement across the WordPress community. The goal is simple, make our world a better place by donating a portion of your sales revenue to the charity of your choice.

In 2021, we ran the WPGivesAHand movement for the second time and it was a blast. The majority of existing partners joined together with the new (but well-known) WP companies. All with a clear goal, support global and local charity organizations during these hard times.

The Visual Composer team is happy to be an ambassador of the WPGivesAHand and we can not wait for more companies to join the movement in 2022.

What's next?

Needless to say, we have huge plans for 2022 with a focus on you guys.

Getting closer to our community experts and being transparent about our roadmap is an essential part of our goal. So is the introduction of features to improve the speed and the quality of your work.

In 2022, we have plans to deliver more options for global controls and reusability, boost Visual Composer Insights, and enhance responsive controls.

On the community side, we are looking into introducing a platform for web creators to capitalize on their skills and expertise.

The Visual Composer team wants to thank you for your dedication and trust. We wish you a happy holiday season and look forward to supporting you through 2022.

WordPress Gives A Hand: Seven Days Of Giving Back https://visualcomposer.com/blog/wordpress-gives-a-hand/ https://visualcomposer.com/blog/wordpress-gives-a-hand/#comments Thu, 09 Dec 2021 16:47:04 +0000 https://visualcomposer.com/?p=33854 The WordPress Gives A Hand is a charity movement brought to you by the WordPress community. For the second year in a row Visual Composer and other WordPress businesses will donate up to 20% of all sales to chosen charitable projects and organizations during Christmas, 2021.

The post WordPress Gives A Hand: Seven Days Of Giving Back appeared first on Visual Composer Website Builder.

]]>

The WP Gives A Hand event for 2021 has ended and we have made a donation to The Ocean Cleanup. Let’s make a difference together!

The Ocean Cleanup Donation

WPGivesAHand is a WordPress-wide movement where businesses join together to help those in need, during the miraculous season of love and giving back.

The community behind it is motivated by the desire to make a positive impact, by helping those we can. This has led us on an inspiring journey as we have witnessed the event grow from a charity function into a movement, that makes donations across all kinds of charitable projects and organizations around the world for the second year in a row!

If you're making a purchase with these companies, including us, from December 20th to December 26th, 2021 we will donate a portion of every sale towards charity. So come and join!

The Begining Of A Journey To Something Greater

It all started when our team at Visual Composer decided not to stand by and give back in difficult times. However, soon realized that we can make an even bigger difference together with our friends in the WordPress community who share similar visions. Together we formed “WordPress Gives A Hand” — a social cause charity event that has grown into a movement larger than expected!

Social responsibility is not only our priority but also our duty as part of such a powerful community. As a participant, you choose the organization to support with your donation, so that every dollar goes where it’s needed most. It doesn’t matter if you choose to donate one or a hundred percent — every single cent counts! Let’s make this world a better place together!

Even if you choose to not participate, you can help us help others, by spreading the word using the #WPGivesAHand tag. Because even the smallest efforts have the potential to bring great changes. If you don't have an online business, but still want to donate — you can do that directly from the organization’s sites.

Time To Give Back

2021 is been a hard year for everyone - from environmental issues with a huge impact on climate change to riots, and protests due to social inequality. And lastly, the aftermath of the global pandemic left 114 million people in 2020 alone without employment, resulting in them losing housing or even access to enough food. Not to mention other hardships occurring all over the world from year to year.

This year has not been an easy one, but you can take peace in knowing that there are still many great things happening. For example:

 • United Nations declared 2021 the “International Year of Peace and Trust”
 • The development of an HIV vaccine showed 97% effectiveness
 • 77 countries in the world announced bans on plastic bags
 • Reddit investors adopted 3,500 endangered gorillas in 6 days
 • Scientists at Brown University connected a human brain to a computer, allowing people with paralysis to move robotic limbs by simply imagining their movements
 • The world’s first 3-D-printed school made by 14Trees opened in Malawi

And the list goes on. The point is, life is full of ups and downs, but you always have a choice to find something positive even in the worst of times.

That's why various charities we support through the "WordPress Gives A Hand" movement are all different. But they share one thing in common: each is committed to building a better future for everyone. That's why together with our friends, we are supporting charity causes which include Budi Human, SOS Children's Villages, The Islamic Foundation, The Hope Community Village, and UNICEF.

Why The Ocean?

This year, our team at Visual Composer has decided to donate to The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organization, that is devoted to ridding the world’s oceans of plastic — as are we.

The oceans are a crucial part of our environment, playing an important role in regulating climate and supporting the vastest amount of life on earth.

Around 60% of our oxygen comes from these waters. Which is more than all of the world's rainforests combined. Plus, they absorb carbon dioxide which helps keep things cool down here on Earth.

Unfortunately, that might all change sooner than you think if we don't act now. According to new researches, there could be more plastic in the ocean than fish by 2050. And, worst of all, 90% of marine species will likely be wiped out, if current fishing practices continue.

That's why this organization aims to remove 90% of floating ocean plastic by 2040. They plan to do this by cleaning up the plastic already floating in the ocean, and by “closing the tap” through river plastic interception. All of the plastic gets recycled afterward - from trash to treasure. That's why we need your help now!

By purchasing any Visual Composer Premium plan during the 7 days from December 20th to December 26th, 2021 — 10% will go towards helping The Ocean Cleanup accomplish its mission towards a better, cleaner, and more sustainable future for everyone! 🌊

The Best Is Yet To Come

"WordPress Gives A Hand" is brought to you by the WordPress community. It wouldn't be possible without our friends — we are thankful to each and every one of you:

Donating has made us realize how lucky we are because there is no greater joy than giving! Plus, it has brought us all closer along the way. 🙂

You can help by spreading the word about the charity and raising awareness throughout the WordPress community, to inspire others to do good!

So join in if you can, purchase the products of the businesses participating in WPGivesAHand, or donate straight to the charity organizations! Also, don't forget to follow our journey, because we feel so strongly about this initiative, that we want to host charitable projects all year round. And remember,

“Those who are happiest, are those who do good for others” ❤
