In a world where technology and environmental sustainability are becoming increasingly intertwined, Visual Composer is joining the WordPress Gives A Hand movement for the 4th year in a row. In 2023, we will donate to One Tree Planted - an organization whose main focus is the global restoration of forests.

If this is your first time hearing about the movement - WordPress Gives A Hand is a global initiative that brings together businesses, organizations, and individuals associated with the WordPress ecosystem. Each partner chooses a cause close to them and donates part of their revenue during the charity event. This year it’s from December 25th to December 31st.

Why Trees Matter

This year we chose to support One Tree Planted, a non-profit organization dedicated to global reforestation.

Trees play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of our ecosystem and over the years deforestation has made an impact on climate change. It has been destroying the homes of more than half the world's land-based plants and animals, and three-quarters of all birds. So one way to reduce the damage is by planting more trees and One Tree Planted is doing just that.

Trees Planted Over The Years

One Tree Planted statistics

One Tree Planted has planted over 92.7 million trees in more than 80 countries since 2014 and we’re proud to be part of the future of reforestation.

How You Can Contribute

You can join Visual Composer and other WordPress community members and be a part of this collective effort.

By purchasing Visual Composer for your website building needs during the last full week of the year, you are indirectly contributing to the WordPress Gives A Hand movement and supporting the valuable work of One Tree Planted.

Here are other WordPress companies joining WordPress Gives a hand this year. By purchasing from any of them, you’ll be part of our collective movement.

Let’s create positive change together, one tree at a time

Visual Composer's participation in the WordPress Gives A Hand movement marks a significant step towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future. As businesses increasingly recognize the importance of corporate social responsibility, the WordPress community sets a great example by intertwining technological innovation with a commitment to preserving our planet for future generations.

Keep an eye out for upcoming updates, and let's create a lasting impact together!

The post How to Create a WordPress Website Quickly and Efficiently: The Tools I Used appeared first on Visual Composer Website Builder.

The internet is a vast place with endless possibilities. In recent years, the rise of websites has been incredible. Today, there are more than 2 billion active websites online and that number will continue to grow. With so many options available for building your own website, it can be hard to know which one to choose. But what if I told you that you could build your WordPress site faster than before? Well, it's possible and I'm going to show you how!

The trick is choosing the right tools that allow optimizing the time you need to create a website. And what are the main components of a website design? Layout, graphic assets, content, and SEO. Luckily, I've got a tool for every one of these components wrapped in a cozy Visual Composer blanket. All these tools can be used together in the new Visual Composer front-end editor, so you'll have everything at your fingertips at all times.

I'll show you how to create a full page quickly from start to finish using these tools:

 • Visual Composer - a website builder for the layout
 • Unsplash integration - a free stock image library for images
 • Bertha AI assistant - for AI-generated content writing
 • Visual Composer Insights - a content analysis tool for SEO

Choose a layout with Visual Composer

The first step in this whole process is to get your hands on Visual Composer. In this scenario, it will serve as the base of everything else. You can create your website from scratch using the plethora of features that Visual Composer has, but today we're here for speed. So the easiest and fastest way to start is to use one of the 10 templates available for the free version or one of the 200+ templates available for the premium version.

Visual Composer Templates

Once you've chosen the right template for you, the next step is to simply change the content to fit what you want to display on your page. And not only that, you can change any single aspect of the template design - change the order of sections, change images and text, change fonts, sizes of sections, add more sections, and anything else that you see fit. So let's move on to just that.

Generate content with Bertha AI

AI is a very trendy topic at the moment and for a good reason - it just makes our lives easier.

As I mentioned earlier, Bertha is an AI-based writing assistant for WordPress that can generate high-quality content for you in seconds! Simply choose a topic from the list of available topics and let this artificial intelligence write about it. Bertha also has a free and premium version with the difference being the word count that the tool generates.

Bertha AI sub-heading template

The great thing about Bertha and Visual Composer is that you can use the writing assistant in the editor anywhere there's text. If we take a simple Text Block element as an example, when you open the edit window of that element, you'll see the Bertha icon. When you click on it, a sidebar with the possible type of content (templates) that it can generate will appear. This varies from Call to Action Button and Section Title, to full-on about us page and even a mission statement so you don’t have to think about that either!

All you have to do is introduce Bertha to what you'll be writing about and the AI assistant will generate content.

Change images with Unsplash

The next step in this journey is changing the template default images to images that fit your design ideas. Photoshoots take time and money so I'm offering an easier way to customize the template.

This is where Unsplash can help. You can find the whole Unsplash image library in the Visual Composer Hub. Once you've found an image, you can just click on it to download and it will be automatically added to your WordPress media library. No need to name new folders and save anything locally, the images are ready to use almost instantly.

Unsplash

Unsplash is a great source for finding royalty-free photos that fit any niche imaginable: from business websites to food blogs or travel magazines - there's an image for everyone here! So simply browse through the library, search for some keywords that are appropriate for you.

When you've got your images, you can't always rely on what the photographer had in mind with the coloring of it. So there are actually a couple of ways you can spice up these stock photos to fit the style of your page.

First are the Instagram-like filters for Single Image elements. Apply a filter that you like most and the images will have a coherent look.

Instagram-like filters

The second is the Gradient Overlay for backgrounds. If you set an image as a background for any row or column, you can add an overlay and it will change the look completely.

Gradient overlay

Note: This is the only feature available only for the Premium version of Visual Composer. Although you can still get free images from the Unsplash website, Visual Composer just makes it quicker and easier.

SEO with Insights

The final tool we're going to look at is Visual Composer Insights. It's a built-in content analysis tool that analyzes the content on your page and gives suggestions that can improve SEO and the performance of your site. And same as with all other tools that I talked about, you can find it in the Visual Composer editor. Just click on the bell icon in the navbar and you'll see all it has to offer.

Insights

Note: If there are any problems that Insights detects, there's going to be a red dot on the bell icon, so you know immediately.

With Insights, you'll see critical problems in red, warnings in yellow, and successes in green. And the scenarios that Insights check differ from checking if the text length is optimal, if the ALT attribute is missing for images, if the H1 title exists, to even checking the contrast on your page.

Insights will also show you exactly where on your page the problem is detected so you don't have to look for it yourself.

So if you're still questioning why this is so important, I'm going to simply say - Google. If you want your page to be easily discoverable, it has to follow the best practices that Google's algorithm takes into account when figuring out where in the search results to put your site.

And once all the problems are gone and all you see is the green little Insights circle, you can pat yourself on the shoulder and be done with the page!

Conclusion

We've gone on a full journey of creating a page using Visual Composer, Bertha AI, Unsplash, and Insights. A great bundle of tools that allow creating sites faster than before. I hope you'll try these out and add them to your routine as I have.

How to Redirect a Page in WordPress https://visualcomposer.com/blog/how-to-redirect-a-page-in-wordpress/ https://visualcomposer.com/blog/how-to-redirect-a-page-in-wordpress/#respond Thu, 27 May 2021 12:04:45 +0000 https://visualcomposer.com/?p=31869 In this article, we'll show you how to create a 301 redirect in WordPress with these plugins - Redirection, Yoast, and 301 Redirects.

The post How to Redirect a Page in WordPress appeared first on Visual Composer Website Builder.

]]>

Have you ever wondered how to create WordPress redirects? If so, this article is for you! In it, I'll tell you more about the reasons why to make WordPress redirects, as well as what they do. We'll also show you how to create them in WordPress and a few different plugins that can help make your life easier when creating them.

While there are multiple types of redirects available, I'll talk about 301 redirects as it's the most common one and likely will be just what you need.

What is the 301 redirect?

One of the main reasons why WordPress 301 redirect is necessary because Google crawls the internet on a regular basis, looking for new content as well as changes in existing content. When they crawl your site, if they can't find what they're looking for on their first pass, then it will be marked down as a 404 error which means that there were pages found but not enough information was given to satisfy the search engine's request. This type of error will hurt your SEO rankings and should be avoided at all costs!

The solution is to create a redirect to lead visitors from the broken link to another one. And the 301 redirect is a permanent redirect for obviously permanently moving or deleting a page. It is the most common of the bunch, but know that there's more if you think that the 301 is not a good fit for you.

Reasons to create a redirect include:

 • Changing permalinks to any page or post, so that the visitor find their way to the new link;
 • Deleting content from your site, so you want to lead the visitor to existing content if they stumble upon the URL that doesn't work anymore.

With that said, let's move on to actually creating a redirect in WordPress.

How to create a redirect?

It is possible to go the technical route and create a redirect using your site’s .htaccess file, but there's a simpler way to do it, and you guessed it, there are plugins for that. I'm going to quickly walk you through a couple of them, so you can see which one you like best.

You can find redirection plugins straight from your WordPress dashboards plugin directory. Simply look for “redirect”.

Redirection plugins in WordPress

I'll show you to create redirects with Redirection, 301 Redirects, and Yoast. The first two are absolutely free by the way.

Redirection

This might be the most popular redirection plugin of the bunch and for a good reason. It's very easy to use. We'll start in the WordPress admin panel. After installation, go to Tools and then Redirection.

Redirections plugin

There, just fill in spots. Write down the current URL and then the URL you want to lead to. And with that, you'll have your simple 301 redirect.

The Redirection plugin also detects 404 that occur on your site, so you can redirect those to existing content.

301 Redirects

301 Redirects do just the same thing. Go to your WordPress admin panel, then Settings and there you'll see 301 Redirects.

301 Redirects plugin

Again, simply write down the source URL and then the destination URL and you're good to go.

One of the most appealing features of this plugin is that it allows you to create custom URLs for your redirect destinations and also provides in-depth stats.

Yoast SEO

I wanted to include Yoast SEO because there's a big chance you're already using this plugin and there wouldn't be a need for a new one. Its pro version comes with a Redirect manager.

You'll find Yoast Redirects on the left side menu on your WordPress admin panel.

Yoast Redirects

Same as with the other plugin, Yoast allows writing down the old URL and then the new one. You can also choose between different types of redirects, as the temporary 307 for example.

Conclusion

In this article, we’ve covered a few different WordPress redirect plugins that you can use to easily and painlessly create the perfect redirection for your site. There's always an easier way to do things in WordPress, so hopefully, these plugins were just what you needed.

If there are any other aspects of these tools or any others you would like us to cover, let us know! We love hearing from our readers so please feel free to reach out with questions or comments anytime.

How to Create a Custom WooCommerce Product Page With Visual Composer https://visualcomposer.com/blog/how-create-a-custom-woocommerce-product-page-with-visual-composer/ https://visualcomposer.com/blog/how-create-a-custom-woocommerce-product-page-with-visual-composer/#comments Thu, 27 May 2021 12:04:45 +0000 https://visualcomposer.com/?p=31778 This article is going to show you how you can use Visual Composer and WooCommerce to create a beautiful, functional product page.

The post How to Create a Custom WooCommerce Product Page With Visual Composer appeared first on Visual Composer Website Builder.

]]>

Creating a custom product page for WooCommerce can be daunting. There are so many elements to consider, and it's hard to know where to start. This article is going to focus on how you can use Visual Composer and WooCommerce to create a beautiful, functional product page!

We'll get to a custom product page in 3 simple steps:

 1. Creating a product with WooCommerce;
 2. Adding the product to a page created with Visual Composer;
 3. Creating a custom "Add To Cart" button.

So you have a visual representation of what I'll be talking about, this is an example of what a custom product page can look like.

Battlecreek coffee page

All the steps will be based on this layout, but everything is 100% customizable.

Creating a product

Creating a product with WooCommerce is as straightforward as it gets. The first step is to have WooCommerce installed and ready. Now log into your WordPress admin panel and follow these steps:

 1. Locate "Products" on the left side menu;
 2. Click on "Add New";
 3. Fill in information about your product and save.
WoooCommerce product example

Make sure to mention the title, price, add a description. You can also add a category or anything else your product needs and that will be important to display on the product page.

Adding the product to a page

Now we can move on to the actual product page. This is where you get ultimate design freedom so you can go as crazy or as minimal as you want. The main thing I wanted to show in this step is a handy feature of Visual Composer - Dynamic Content. It allows syncing the WooCommerce products with the page where they're displayed. Meaning, if you add a dynamic price to your page when it's changed in the WooCommerce product (like the one I walked you through in the previous step) it will automatically change on the page too. You can save a ton of time with this technique in the long run.

I'll show you how to add dynamic content with the same price example, but it can be used for the image, the description, the title, and everything else you filled in about the product.

Let's say you've got your layout ready and styled and now there's a placeholder text for the price. I usually just use the Text Block element and write “Price” where I want it to be.

Next, open the Edit Window for the text block element and look for the Dynamic Content icon at the very bottom of the TinyMCE editor.

Add Dynamic Content

There you have to enable the toggle which allows choosing the source from which information is going to be taken. In our case, you have to find the product. You do that by writing its name or the product ID. You can find it in the “Products” section under the product.

Then just choose the type of content you want to be displayed from the dropdown. You'll find “Price” under the WooCommerce section at the bottom.

Dynamic Content Window

Now just save and the information will be all synced up and we can move on to the next step.

Creating a custom "Add To Cart" button

When it comes to a custom product page, you don't want to rely on the default styling of WooCommerce or your theme. So there's always a way to go around it with Visual Composer.

Once you've got your button, it's styled the way you want it to and added to the product page, there a couple of simple steps to take.

First, you'll have to open the edit window of the button and then open the link selector. There, choose “Custom” from the dropdown. Now enter the ‘Add to Cart’ URL with the appropriate product ID.
The URL should look something like this: /?add-to-cart=1404, but replace the numbers with your product ID.

Custom Add To Cart Button

When that's done your button will add the product to the cart. As simple as that.

Conclusion

Visual Composer and WooCommerce makes the perfect pair for creating custom product pages. You can use our drag-and-drop interface to customize the layout and design of your product pages and all it takes is installing both plugins in order for you to get started.

This website shows how you can create a great first impression with high-quality images and catchy effects like bounce and mouse-follow animation.

It is also important to note, that this website has combined the functionality of multiple WordPress plugins with Visual Composer Integrations. Once opened, the website displays a beautiful slider created with the Slider Revolution plugin and fine-tuned with Visual Composer.

BlueSoft

BlueSoft uses interactive animations and fade-in effects to create a sense of involvement and a dynamic feel. While adding the fade-in effect to your site can require a bit of coding knowledge, the powerful Design Options allow you to choose and add one of 40+ animation effects with a single click.

Dune & Sky

Dune & Sky is an authentic portfolio of a web designer taking care of everything. They've done a great job with branding their site and creating a very unique look that you won't forget.

In the website, they use basic elements like separators and buttons as well as attention-grabbing background and clean minimalistic sections. They have really created a balance between simplistic layout and eye-catching design.

You can also create a transparent header (just as Dune & Sky did) with the Visual Composer Header Builder that comes within the Theme Builder addon.

Audrey Fotografia

Audrey Fotografia is a photography website, that displays the work of Adrienn. Her website is a great example of what you can achieve with Visual Composer.

An effective feature is the Video Background that is used at the very top of the page. It engages the visitor and it serves as a quick showreel of what's to come.

Other Visual Composer features that are used on this website and are worth mentioning are the header and footer builder and the grid elements that display multiple galleries.

Tilde Johansson

We are so proud to support various types of brands from individual to organization and personal brands. For example, Tilde Johansson, a famous Swedish athlete, chooses Visual Composer to build her engaging and unique portfolio website.

This website uses high-quality images and interactive mouse-follow animations, and that gives a personal feel.

Also, this layout is an example of how well two outstanding web design trends like disordered grid and micro animations can blend with a simple slider block.

White's Mercantile

White's Mercantile is a well-designed all-in-one shopping solution for everything you have ever wanted to buy.

We adore the interesting hand-drawn style of the website and the effort that was put into creating such a beautiful project. The result is fascinating: the easy-to-remember website that stands out from the crowd showing how much the design of a simple site can impact its altogether look.

Martini Time

No Martini – no party! We are excited to see that brands like Martini rely on Visual Composer to support their online presence.

A simple feature with a big impact is the image background type that you can find in the Design Options. Martini Time is using the “Background zoom” effect, but you can also choose an “Image slideshow” as a background or even a video.

CharlieShotMe

CharlieShotMe is a website for accomplished fashion and portrait photographer Charles Rodulfo.

The full width and height of the background image result in a beautiful layout that is easy to make using the row settings. More about the background – the colors of the images and background are perfectly coherent.

Norra Hamnen 5

This is a website for a restaurant “Norra Hamnen 5”, a restaurant in Sweden that offers a beautiful view as well as local produce.

This website is making good use of the Google Headings element (it has all Google Fonts available) mixed with some more uncommon elements like Multiple Image Collage and Simple Call To Action. All these elements combined make it easy to locate the focus points of the site. Those are also amplified by using CSS animations.

Despite the site being made using a regular grid, it looks a little distorted and that’s a very popular design component at the moment.

An element that is conveniently used in this layout is the Feature Section. It’s not only a very quickly customizable block, it also takes care of responsiveness for you.

EnjoyHQ

EnjoyHQ is a user research platform based on providing extensive data analysis to centralize all research data and discover insights faster.

The combination of basic Visual Composer Website Builder elements and Custom CSS to style them additionally is a powerful way how to build a clean and unique design.

A good practice is to include customer reviews, and there's an element in Visual Composer that does just that, the Star Ranking element, that they've used at the very top of the site.

How to create an exit-intent popup in WordPress https://visualcomposer.com/blog/how-to-create-an-exit-intent-popup-in-wordpress/ https://visualcomposer.com/blog/how-to-create-an-exit-intent-popup-in-wordpress/#comments Mon, 08 Jun 2020 11:56:56 +0000 http://t.visualcomposer.com/?p=29978 Exit-intent popups are an effective digital marketing tool and creating them in WordPress is quick and easy if you are using Visual Composer.

The post How to create an exit-intent popup in WordPress appeared first on Visual Composer Website Builder.

]]>

Are you wondering how to create an exit popup or simply want to know what is it? In this short article, I will guide you through every step to create and launch your own exit-intent popup in WordPress.

What is an Exit-Intent Popup?

An exit-intent popup is a modal window that appears to site visitors if they are trying to leave a page. The goal of an exit-intent popup is to prevent users from leaving your site or take action by leaving their contact information.

The popup can contain anything (usually in a form of Call-to-Action) from promotional discounts to subscription forms - it is up to you to decide - whatever your goal is.

Although exit-intent popups seem to be really annoying, they are considered as one of the most efficient digital marketing instruments. Some well-made popups get as much as a 33% conversion rate (talking about lead capturing).

Exit-Intent Popups for WordPress

With WordPress at your fingertips, there is a plugin for everything. And, when it comes to popups, there is even more.

Because of its popularity, most popup builders are fully compatible with WordPress. This means that you can choose from a wide variety of great tools to create popups for your site.

Some of the tools to consider are Sumo, JustUno, OptinMonster, and Visual Composer Popup Builder.

Whatever your choice is, there are few things to consider.

The first one is the display limit, as you don't want to find out that your popups stopped working because you've reached your limit.

The second, design freedom to create popups you want. Some tools get lots of limitations when it comes to designing a popup.

The third is the price. There are zero reasons to overpay for the tool you can get for a competitive price and still satisfy all your needs.

How to Create an Exit-Intent Popup in WordPress

In this chapter, I will use Visual Composer Popup Builder as an example of how you can quickly get your popups up and running.

Before we jump into the process, there are few things to know about Visual Composer Popup Builder:

 • There are no limits on the number of popups or display limits;
 • There is total design freedom as you will design popups in the visual editor;
 • The Popup Builder comes completely free of charge for everyone with a Visual Composer Premium subscription.

It is time to create your first exit-intent popup.

The first thing you need to do is simply open Visual Composer Hub and download Popup Builder extension from the Addons section.

For those new to the Visual Composer Hub, it is a cloud library available to Visual Composer users to download extra content and functionality, like elements, templates, add-ons, and stock images.

Once downloaded, the Popup Builder will be automatically installed.

The core idea behind Visual Composer Popup Builder is that you can create an unlimited number of popup design templates and then activate triggers, like page load, click, or exit-intent by choosing the popup you have created.

To access the popup builder, go back to your WordPress Admin Dashboard and navigate to Visual Composer - Popup Builder.

Now, simply click on Add New and you will be instantly redirected to the Visual Composer Frontend editor to design your popups.

Add new popup

Once in the Popup Builder, the first thing to do is give your new popup a meaningful name. The popup name will be displayed in the drop-down menu once you will choose a popup to be triggered for the exit-intent action.

As you proceed, you will see a drag and drop interface with popup container already added by default.

Popup container

A popup container is the root element of your modal window that allows you to quickly adjust the appearance of your popup window. From there, you can control width, background, close buttons, and even overlay.

Let's start by adding some colors to our popup. For that, in the Popup Container window on the left, navigate down to Design Options and set a background color. I will choose blue.

As you can see, the close button with the default color is not visible. In such a case, it is a good idea to make it white.

Plus, I would like to have my popup window wider so I will set it to 600px. A cool thing about popup width is that you can also use percentage - this means your popup width will be calculated from the screen size.

Popup color

Now we have our popup window styled and it's time to add some content.

You can use any element available in Visual Composer and add it to your popup window. Make sure to check out Visual Composer Hub for various elements.

Let's say that we want to offer our site visitors a special discount upon leaving the site. For that, we will use simple elements - text block and button.

Take note, just like in Visual Composer Website Builder, the popup builder uses row and column element logic to arrange elements into rows and columns.

In the Popup Builder, there is a row and column added to the Popup Builder by default already. To add a text block, simply click on the add sign in the navigation bar on the left or directly in the row of your layout.

Popup add element

You will see an element window where you should choose the Text Block.

Popup add text block

With the text block added, you can adjust the copy of your message and style it by using WordPress default TinyMCE editor.

Add text block

With the copy ready, let's add a button just below our message. Hover the text block with your mouse and click on the plus sign just below. In the element window, locate Basic Button and click add.

With this action, we specify that we want to add a new element in the same row just after the text.

If you want to add a button to another row, you can do so by clicking on the icons below which will add a new row with one or several columns and then add an element there.

Our button is added, but it requires some styling. Update the title, choose your button color, and add a link where you want to lead your visitor.

Popup button

While adding a text and a button is the base of the popup, a good practice is to also add an image to make the popup stand out more. Visual Composer allows adding images anywhere in the popup but in this case, I'd like it to be on the right side of the text and the button.

To do that, we'll first have to add a second column to this row. To do that, open the edit window the row where we already have all of our content and under the Row Layout section, you can choose the layout with two equal-sized columns.

Popup row layout

Then to add an image, the process is the same as with the Tex Block before. Simply click on the plus icon and choose Single Image from the Element Library, that popped up on the left side.

Now we can add the image we want, by deleting the default image and choosing from the Media Library. And that's it! Hit on Save, and our popup is ready!

Popup in editor

The last step is adding it to your website. There are two ways to go around this. You can either make the popup show up on the whole site or just on a specific page.

To display the popup we just made on the whole website, open your WordPress dashboard, locate Visual Composer in the left side menu, and click on Settings. There you'll find the Popup Settings tab. Specify the exit-intent popup simply by choosing it from the dropdown and don't forget to save the changes.

Popup on whole site

If you want to trigger the popup on a specific page, you'll have to open that page and in the frontend editor go to the On-Page Settings, that you can find in the navigation bar. There choose Popup from the dropdown and on the “On exit intent” section choose the popup you made.

Hit save now the popup will be triggered once a person tries to exit this specific page.

Popup on page

When everything is done and you're happy with the result, this is how the popup will look for the visitor.

Popup ready

It's just like in the frontend editor. Simple yet effective.

Conclusion

Now you can be sure, that creating a popup doesn't have to take up much of your time. It can be as little as a catchy text, simple button, and an interesting image. But it doesn't have to stop there. You can always make the popup as complex as you wish and Visual Composer has the tools to support all of your crazy ideas.

So in short, exit-intent popups are an essential marketing tool, and making them with Visual Composer is fast and easy.

I'm sure that we're at a point where I don't have to convince you that popups, as annoying as they are, work. They are a great tool to have in your marketing toolbox if you don't overdo it of course.

If by any chance you're still not sure, how about some facts. According to research by Sumo, an average exit-intent popup has a 3.09% conversion rate, while top-class popups go as high as 9.28%. Hopefully, that got your attention.

cat popup

So with that said, there's a particular type of popup, that I want to highlight, and that's the exit-intent popup. That's the one you'd see when trying to exit a page. It tracks the movement of the mouse and when you're right at the top corner, it shows a message in hopes of getting your attention one last time.

Some of the main ways of utilizing exit-intent popups are the following:

 • Collect emails;
 • Fight against cart abandonment;
 • Show related content.

Collect emails

This is a very common way of using an exit-intent popup, with a simple premise - get emails. Usually, that means signing up to your email list, getting regular newsletters.

A good idea is to add a “hook” for signing up. You can do things like:

 • Offer a discount;
 • Offer some exclusive content;
 • Provide social proof,
 • Create a sense of urgency, etc.

People often need that extra push, so you can be the one giving it. Sounds aggressive, I know, but I'm talking about popups only here!

Popup pug

This popup, for example, works on multiple levels. It doesn't only use the attention-grabbing red color, but also plays on the viewer’s emotions with the beautiful doggy. And studies say, that relying on emotional appeal can make your content perform two times better.

Popup wpbeginner

WPBeginner has found its “hook” with free resources, which is definitely a good way to go. It's not just a “dry” message but it has some value for the visitors.

Popup leesa

Another way to make your popups less annoying is to mix in some humor like this mattress shop. Little goes a long way in crucial moments like this. You might decide against buying a mattress, but then you see this popup, chuckle a little and give them another chance because you like the way “talk” to you.

Fight against cart abandonment

Cart abandonment is something that everyone selling something on the internet will eventually fight a war with. The global average shopping cart abandonment rate for online e-commerce in 2019 was nearly 70%. 70% is a lot of lost sales and a large number of people to work with.

So what can be done, is creating an exit-intent popup right for the checkout. And there are multiple strategies to try.

Free shipping

This a good place where to offer free shipping. Great place, actually. Because you might not know this, but the number one factor that influences internet users in the US when deciding which online shop to use, is free shipping.

Popup kate spade

It's a good opportunity to offer free shipping right when the potential buyer has added items to the cart, but need just the right little push towards the checkout.

Discount

Discounts are a go-to, for last resort type of actions. So this is simple yet effective. It's so effective actually, that 4 out of 5 people will be more encouraged to buy something new from a brand that's new to them if they get an offer. If that's not enough, 67% of consumers have made an unplanned purchase just because they found a discount.

Popup save 10 percent

Simply offering 10% off and a gift is a strategy that might make the visitor return for more of your products in the future.

Popup sumo

Here I also wanted to mention that apart from a discount, it's possible to offer something for free, as an ebook for example.

With strong arguments for this strategy, it's surely worth a try. You can also maximize this type of popup, with the next strategy - a sense of urgency.

Urgency

Creating a sense of urgency if yet another widely used technique in the marketing world, because it acts on our basic human traits. People are scared to miss out on something, so they act and make decisions faster.

Popup 20 precent today

One way of achieving this is to make the offer expire after a certain amount of time, like in this popup. It's clearly stated that after today, this amazing discount will be gone.

The bright side of this, along with all the rest bright sides, is that you don't have to choose one strategy. Be smart, mix and match and in the end you could potentially save a ton of sales.

Show related content

This strategy is as straightforward as it can get, but people sometimes miss the most obvious choice. So here it is - if you want a person to look at more of your stuff, show more stuff. This goes for both - a blog and an online store.

Popup flatio

Let's say a visitor is not interested in a particular blog post and wants to leave, you can show related posts, that might spark some interest.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, it's important to remember that popups are not a fan favorite. So if you do decide to implement any on your site, make sure it's well throughout, make sure you've done your A/B tests and use whatever is the best.

Popup last

And don't forget to make it your own. There's a fine line between staying professional while doing something silly. So this is the last popup you'll see in this post.

If you're looking for a tool that allows making completely custom popups, Visual Composer's popup builder will let you do just that!

The post All You Should Know About Icons appeared first on Visual Composer Website Builder.

]]>

Icons are a huge part of web design and are widely used for feature descriptions all around the web and most likely, you're here because you want to include some icons in your designs as well.

I'm sure that at some point in your life, you've played around with fonts in Microsoft Word and stumbled upon the Wingding icon font and could use that in your designs. It's not that simple in WordPress. But still pretty easy if you know what to do and what to look for and that's exactly what I'm going to tell you.

In this post we'll look into:

 • What are icons and why use them;
 • Where to find icons;
 • How to add icons to your site;
 • Beautiful examples.

What are icons and why use them?

Let's start off by simply saying that icons are used to accent written content in a meaningful way.

There are actually plenty of benefits to using icons in your design. They not only increase the readability of your site, by giving a visual representation of what's written but also is simply more memorable and eye-catching.

The icons separate the content, making it easier and faster to take in. We all know the statistic of most people looking at a site for less than 15 seconds, and that is not a lot. So these icons will direct their attention to the spot you want and make the content understandable even without reading it word for word.

I've collected a set of tips you can apply to your website design if you are using icons:

 • Icons should be visual synonyms to the content you add them to;
 • For consistent design - don't mix icon sets and fonts
 • Icons can be used to give meaning to features;
 • Make lists more attractive with icons. Simply adding a checkmark icon can make the list more readable;
 • A good practice is to apply the accent colors of your page to the icons to make them stand out;
 • You can add icons to buttons, to increase their meaning;
 • You can also use icons as dividers.

In WordPress, what people usually use are icon fonts, not individual image-based icons, because icon fonts will be better for the performance of your site.

Where to find icons?

Finding icons may get a little overwhelming, so here are some of the most popular icon libraries you can browse around and find the one that suits your site the best.

Font Awesome

Font Awesome is the most popular icon library with free and pro icons available. Font Awesome has more than 7 000 icons that you can use and you'll be able to find the right one within their very easy to use icon library.
The easiest way to add any of the icons to your page would be with the Font Awesome plugin.

Iconify

This is a unified icon library with over 40,000 icons. The icons include social icons, weather icons, emojis and many more.

IcoMoon

IcoMoon is a service that offers a big library of icons. There are both free and premium icons available and they've separated them into three plans.
To use any of the icons, launch the free plan app, and then you can generate an SVG file, download it and add it to your WordPress site.

There's also an option to use the WP SVG Icons plugin, which generates a shortcode for the IcoMoon icon you want to use.

It has more than 490 icons that you can add.

Icofont

This is a service that offers more than 2100 free unique icons to add to your site. You can search for individual icons, or browse through categories.
You can add Icofont icons by downloading an SVG file and uploading that to your website.

Material Icons

Yet another open-source icon library that offers icons in different styles and categories. Material Icons allows download PNG files of their icons as well, so that means you won't have to worry about WordPress not supporting SVG files (by default, but there's a way to change that, so I'll talk about that later). But remember, that they will not be vectors, so be careful will the size, if you decide to use it.

How to add icons to your site?

There a couple of ways you could go around adding icons to your WordPress website. You could use an icon font plugin or a builder.

Add icons as SVG

Some of the icon libraries allow downloading SVG files, so an option is to download the icons and just add them as images. The issue with this method is that WordPress doesn't support SVG files by default, but you can use a plugin like SVG Support that fixes this problem.

Overall this might not be the best option, because it can also influence your site’s performance and choosing an icon font like Font Awesome would be a better option.

Add icons with a plugin

One way to add icons to your site is with a plugin, like the Font Awesome plugin. It allows adding any of the Font Awesome icons using a shortcode.

To do that, first, find the icon that you want to add. They've got a WordPress icon, so obviously, I'll demonstrate with it.

Now you have to remember the name of the icon, which is “wordpress” and simply add it to the shortcode which is:

[icon name="wordpress"]

At this point, to add it to the page, let's use the Gutenberg editors shortcode block and just add the shortcode. And that will add the icon. If you want to add a different icon, just replace its name in the shortcode and do the same thing.

If you are using the Classic Editor, you can copy the shortcode in the TinyMCE editor, and the icon will appear.

They have a basic use guide, where you can check out additional information on styling.

You can browse through the WordPress plugin directory, to find more icon pack plugins, like the WP SVG Icons plugin I mentioned before, that has the Icomoon Icon Font Importer feature, so you can use the IcoMoon icons.

Add icons with Visual Composer

If you are using Visual Composer, it might be the easiest option for adding icons, as Visual Composer has a complete icon sets integration. All free Font Awesome icons are available for the free version of Visual Composer and you can find them in our Icon elements.

Simply add one of the elements to a page and choose any of the icons. In Visual Composer, you also have a lot of styling options. You can change the size, the color, placement and more parameters in seconds.

If you are using the premium version of Visual Composer, you get access to a bunch more icon sets, like Feather, Dripicons, and many more. You can access them in the same place - the Icon elements. Just choose a set from the dropdown, and look through the multitude of icons.

Beautiful Examples

In this section, I wanted to share some inspirational examples of how people have used icons in their design.

Chobani

This brand uses multiple icon design as a divider.

Binaryblocks

Binaryblocks added a “play” icon to indicate a video.

Sproutsend

An icon is used to complement feature descriptions. Also, the checkmark icons are used to make the list more readable.

Sweet Punk

Sweet Punk uses and icon to accentuate their design.

Buddha Pizza

This pizza shop uses icons as section visualisations. Together with animations, this makes a very interesting and interactive design.

desiign

This digital agency uses icons in their navigation to make the sections more interesting and appealing.

Conclusion

By using icons you will definitely benefit in multiple ways like grabbing your visitors' attention in seconds and bringing the information faster than before.

With the help of this complete guide to icons, browse around the most popular icon libraries, add them to your WordPress site and better your users’ experience.

In the latest version of the Visual Composer Premium, you can find 15 libraries and up to 1,263 new icons! Make sure to try them out! ????
